Synesthetic paintings and sculptural works exploring musical harmony and urban transformation at this renowned open-air art fair.

On June 14, 2025, Arnaud Quercy joins the 17th edition of the Marché de l'Art in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, a prestigious open-air contemporary art fair that has anchored itself as a cornerstone of the region's cultural calendar. Organized by L'Atelier Pièce Unique under the artistic direction of Cécile Coutant, this annual gathering draws over 100 artists from across France, transforming the historic city center into a vibrant marketplace where painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and photography converge in direct dialogue with the public.

For nearly two decades, the Marché de l'Art has cultivated a space where emerging and established artists present work outside the traditional gallery framework, fostering an atmosphere of accessibility and spontaneous exchange. Quercy's participation continues his engagement with open-air formats that invite viewers into unmediated encounters with art—encounters shaped not by the reverential silence of institutional spaces but by the ambient rhythms of public life, conversation, and chance discovery.

Quercy presents a curated selection from his Synesthetic Explorations series alongside recent sculptural works that extend his ongoing investigation into the intersection of musical harmony, abstract expression, and material transformation. The chromesthetic paintings translate the vibrational qualities of musical keys into layered compositions where color functions as tone and brushwork as rhythm. Complementing these works, sculptures crafted from recycled materials carry the embedded histories of urban life—forms that speak to transformation, resilience, and the poetic tension between structure and spontaneity.

The exhibition offers viewers an immersive sensory experience, inviting reflection on inner rhythm and the fluid boundaries between perception and emotion. Through fine detail and raw texture, Quercy's work proposes art not merely as something to observe but as a field of resonance—a space where perception becomes experience. The open-air setting of the Marché de l'Art amplifies this intention, situating the work within the living context of community gathering and cultural exchange.

Artist Statement

This presentation brings together two complementary dimensions of my practice: the chromesthetic watercolors from Synesthetic Explorations, which make visible the colors I perceive within musical keys, and sculptural works crafted from reclaimed materials that carry the textures and memories of urban life.

What unites these bodies of work is an attention to resonance—the silent vibrations within form, the inner life of color, the stories embedded in discarded things. The Marché de l'Art, with its open-air format and spirit of direct encounter, provides an ideal context for this work. Here, art is not sequestered behind gallery walls but exists amid the pulse of the city, inviting viewers into a space where perception and experience merge.

I am grateful to L'Atelier Pièce Unique and Cécile Coutant for sustaining this tradition of accessible, community-centered cultural exchange for nearly two decades.
