Description
« Blindsight » Oil on paper, marouflage on medium wood panel. 21x29.5cm In the early 1970s, a young patient had most of his right primary visual cortex removed. After the procedure, the patient was completely blind to any object or event in the left half of his visual field. Despite this partial blindness, many visual abilities were preserved. He continued to be able to point to light sources, detect movement, distinguish arrays of lines according to their orientation, and distinguish simple shapes, all within his « blind » visual field.
