April 5, 2021. I'm thinking about Ariel — Shakespeare's air spirit, bound to Prospero's service against his nature. What material could hold a being that is essentially immaterial? Wood, ceramic, steel — I don't know yet. The form is already pulling upward, angular, faceted. Something that reaches but can't quite leave.
