Description

A diminished triad built on G♯ — equal minor thirds stacked into instability. G♯, B♭, and B form the chord's skeleton, spread from G♯2 to B6 across six tones. Blue dominates the low register where G♯ sits dark and muted; yellow-green and yellow emerge in the middle octaves; orange lights the upper B tones. Violet accents appear outside the chord — chromatic visitors adding friction to an already unstable harmony.
Played Animé, mp, legato — the waltz moves with quiet forward momentum. The line climbs from G♯2 in the bass to B6 at the top, the phrase suspended at its peak. A diminished chord has no rest in it, and this ascending contour reinforces the feeling: always reaching, never arriving.
A singular study from the Synesthetic Explorations. The diminished triad divides the octave into equal minor thirds — symmetric, ambiguous, belonging to every key and none. This painting translates that rootless quality: cool blue pulled upward through yellow into orange, the symmetry of the chord reflected in the even spacing of its colors.
