Description

An F major ninth spread across six tones — F, G, A riding over the triad, the ninth and thirteenth adding warmth above the root. F2 opens the bass in near-black red-violet; the middle octaves bring yellow-orange and red-orange where F and G sit side by side; A6 crowns the phrase in light yellow-orange. Five color families for five chord tones — the major ninth's richness translated directly into chromesthetic breadth.
Played Lent, mp, legato, in four — the line rises from F2 to A6 at the crest, then folds back. A bell arch: breath drawn in, held, released. The slow tempo lets each tone ring, the ninth and root separated by four octaves but connected by the legato phrase.
A standalone study from the Synesthetic Explorations. The F major ninth belongs to the same harmonic world as the C and D major ninth series, but this single variation stands apart — its own voicing, its own proportions, its own particular balance of violet-red warmth and golden light.
