Provenance

Description

One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. This facet belongs to the prelude — played ad lib, free of the bar, soft and mysterious. From the chord D−Maj7♭5 it draws the spirit of the Colonnade of the Louvre at midnight, the deep historic heart of the 1st arrondissement: black and midnight-blue masses, a warm ochre angle, a single charge of magenta — time suspended, before the city wakes. It holds the square (column 1, row 1) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
