Rue Montmartre - Paris 2, 03h00

One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. Here the waltz finds its first hushed three-time, deep in the night. From the chord B♭−9 it draws the spirit of rue Montmartre at three in the morning: vivid reds and orange set against magenta and a square of pure black — the empty street still warm. It holds the square (column 2, row 2) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
