Provenance

Description

One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. Here the waltz finds its first hushed three-time, deep in the night. From the chord B♭−9 it draws the spirit of rue Dussoubs on the edge of the Sentier at twenty to four: deep navy and orange, magenta and olive, a small white square — the garment quarter asleep. It holds the square (column 2, row 4) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
