Provenance

Description

One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. The waltz quickens now, the sky paling toward dawn. From the chord B♭−9 it draws the spirit of the old hôtels of rue de Saintonge in the Haut-Marais at twenty past four: red-orange, green and purple blocks over a grey field and a white square — the first paling of the sky. It holds the square (column 2, row 6) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
