One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. The waltz quickens now, the sky paling toward dawn. From the chord E♭−9 it draws the spirit of rue de Poitou at twenty to five: teal and lavender, a purple arc and grey, a white square — the Marais holding its breath before dawn. It holds the square (column 2, row 7) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
