One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. The waltz quickens now, the sky paling toward dawn. From the chords E♭−9 and A♭7 it draws the spirit of the Marché des Enfants Rouges on rue de Bretagne at five — the oldest covered market waking to its first deliveries: blue and lavender, a magenta arc, orange and olive. It holds the square (column 2, row 8) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
