Place Maubert - Paris 5, 08h20

One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. The dance gathers pace through the morning. From the chords C−7♭5 and F7 it draws the spirit of the market on the Place Maubert at twenty past eight: purple, olive and ochre, a blue arc and red — stalls filling the old square. It holds the square (column 4, row 2) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
