Provenance

Description

One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. The dance gathers pace through the morning. From the chord B♭−9 it draws the spirit of the old rue de la Montagne-Sainte-Geneviève at twenty to nine: a purple band over blue and navy, magenta and an orange edge — worn façades climbing the hill. It holds the square (column 4, row 3) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
