Description
One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. The dance gathers pace through the morning. From the chords A−7♭5 and D7 it draws the spirit of the Place de la Sorbonne at twenty past ten, the chapel and its cafés: navy and gold, blue and orange, lavender and an ochre disc — students and terraces. It holds the square (column 4, row 8) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
