Provenance

Description

One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. The dance turns on, full and warm, through the afternoon. From the chord G−7 it draws the spirit of the market-village rue Cler at twenty past one: white and grey, red-orange and ochre, magenta and a purple edge — the lunch crowd on the pedestrian street. It holds the square (column 6, row 1) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
