Description
One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. The dance turns on, full and warm, through the afternoon. From the chord G−7 it draws the spirit of the rue Saint-Dominique at two: grey and gold, a purple block and a white square, tan — the old faubourg street quieting after lunch. It holds the square (column 6, row 3) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
