Provenance

Description

One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. The dance turns on, full and warm, through the afternoon. From the chord C7 it draws the spirit of a bakery-café on rue Saint-Dominique at twenty past two: a black block over red, a purple column and olive, lavender and white — the afternoon trade. It holds the square (column 6, row 4) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
