Provenance

Description

One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. The waltz eases now, the afternoon waning. From the chord E♭−9 it draws the spirit of Guimard's buildings at 8–10 rue Agar (1911) at twenty to five: blue and lavender, purple and magenta, green and a white bar over teal — the Art Nouveau street easing toward evening. It holds the square (column 7, row 3) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
