One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. The dance draws toward its close as night falls, circling back to the prelude. From the chords C−7♭5 and F7 it draws the spirit of the Madeleine and its restaurants at twenty to ten — the lit Greek temple: a grey arc, blue and green, ochre and orange, purple against black — public stone and evening tables. It holds the square (column 9, row 2) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
