Description

A small piano étude translated into color. The Watercolor Study in D Minor No. 2 triad — D0, F2, A3, D4 — appears here as orange toward black, red-violet and yellow-orange, the harmonic-chromatic translation of this chord. From D0 to D4, the étude breathes across the full keyboard.
Played Lent — slowly, meditatively, mp — at a gentle, conversational volume, legato — the notes flowing into one another. Opening at D4 (orange), the line falls to D0 (black) — the phrase finding its resolution in the bass. Arnaud wrote it in triple time, the melody moves in a quiet, waltz-like motion.
This painting belongs to my Harmonic Crossing series, an ongoing practice of translating harmonic relationships into visual form. Each variation is a study — direct, unadorned, focused on the essential character of the chord.
