Description

A small piano étude translated into color. The Watercolor Study in D Major No. 3 triad — D1, D2, F#2, F#3, F#4, D5, A5 — appears here as orange toward black, green toward yellow-green and yellow-orange, the chromesthetic translation of this chord. From D1 to A5, the étude breathes across the full keyboard.
Played Animé — with animation and a sense of forward motion, mp — at a gentle, conversational volume, legato — the notes flowing into one another. Dipping down to D1 (black) before returning, the line traces a valley — an inward gesture. Arnaud wrote it in four, the pulse walks with a steady, even tread.
This painting belongs to my Synesthetic Explorations series, an ongoing practice of translating harmonic relationships into visual form. Each variation is a study — direct, unadorned, focused on the essential character of the chord.
