One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. This facet belongs to the prelude — played ad lib, free of the bar, soft and mysterious. From the chord C−7♭5 it draws the spirit of Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois, the parish church of the kings of France facing the Louvre, at twenty past midnight: a deep blue field split by a red-orange shaft and a glint of teal — a votive light in the dark nave. It holds the square (column 1, row 2) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
