Provenance

Description

One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. This facet belongs to the prelude — played ad lib, free of the bar, soft and mysterious. From the chord G−Maj7♭5 it draws the spirit of the Place des Victoires at a quarter to two, the classical ring around its equestrian king: a broad red-orange form turning past blue and navy, a grey disc echoing the square's curve. It holds the square (column 1, row 6) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
