Provenance

Description

One of the 72 Facets of Paris, a series born of a piano waltz of the same name: the artist gave each of its seventy-two measures the harmony of a Parisian place at a given hour, then painted each harmony into colour and form through his ideamorphic method. This facet belongs to the prelude — played ad lib, free of the bar, soft and mysterious. From the chord A−Maj7♭5 it draws the spirit of the Hôtel de Toulouse, the old mansion of the Banque de France, deserted at two in the morning: a blue disc and teal floating over red and deep shadow, a single white square holding the silence. It holds the square (column 1, row 7) of the mosaic, which fully assembled forms an abstract portrait of Paris.
