Description

Five notes spanning six octaves — D1, D4, D5, A5, A6 — the D power chord stripped to root and fifth, nothing else. Played Lent, mp, legato, in four — slow, meditative, the line rising from D1 to A6 at the crest before folding back: an arch, a breath held and released. D1 sits in the piano's lowest register, felt more than heard.

Orange grounds the palette. The root darkens toward black at D1, warms through earth tones in the middle registers, softens at D5. The fifth — A — arrives as yellow-orange at A5 and lightens to pale sandy tones at A6 near the top. No cool color anywhere; the power chord lives entirely in the warm spectrum, amber through orange through cream.

The simplest harmony in the collection — two pitches, root and fifth, the interval that precedes all chords. A slow arch through six octaves of a single warm hue, the power chord as landscape rather than statement.
