Description

Two warm accents disrupt a cool phrase. Nine notes trace a valley from Db1 to E6, dipping into the sub-bass before climbing back — Animé, mp, legato, in four. The chord tones hold the frame: Db in three octaves, Ab3 steady in blue, E4 and E5 carrying the minor third's yellow upward. But C5 and D5 slip in as red and orange tensions, warm outsiders nestled among the chord tones, pulling the ear away from the prevailing blue-green.

On canvas, highlights dominate — the upper-register thirds dissolving into pale yellow and near-white, while the sub-bass Db1 and Db2 compress toward black at the base. The warm accents sit in the center of the painting, small fields of red-orange that glow against the surrounding cool. Blue surfaces at the fifth, yellow at the third, and between them those two uninvited colors holding their ground.

A phrase where the tensions matter as much as the chord — the outsiders giving the valley its warmth.
