Description

The third climbs through four octaves of light. E appears at E3, E4, E5, and E6 — each one brighter than the last, yellow darkening to brown in the low register and bleaching to silver at the top. Eight notes trace a valley from Db2, dipping before returning upward — Animé, p, legato, in four. A single orange accent at D4 is the only outsider. The fifth surfaces once at Ab5, a quiet blue presence. The root barely registers, a dark anchor at Db2 and a steel-gray accent at Db5.

The canvas is overwhelmingly bright — highlights claim a dominant share, the accumulated glow of the third repeated at altitude. Silver and pale yellow fill the upper surface, while the midtones cluster in a narrow band of muted yellow and gray. Shadow is almost absent, just a thin edge of dark blue-green at the bass.

The brightest painting in the series — the third's yellow told four times, each telling lighter than the last.
