Provenance

Description

This painting translates the opening twelve bars of Bach's Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor (BWV 1041) into visual form. The palette follows my chromesthetic associations for the A minor triad: orange-yellow for A, red for C, and yellow for E.

The dense cluster of dark, angular geometric forms corresponds to the buildup of sixteenth-note passages in the concerto's opening — ascending tension compressed into layered shapes. The expansive red field surrounding them carries the sparser eighth-note texture, where rhythmic pressure releases. These two zones coexist on the canvas rather than reading as a sequence: tension and release held simultaneously.

The isolated red circle marks the high C played by the violin at bars 10–11 — the apex of the ascending phrase before the texture opens. Its separation from the geometric mass identifies it as the structural pivot of the passage.
