Description

The D/G# tritone — nine notes from D1 to D5, the phrase dipping to D1 before returning: a valley, an inward gesture. Played Animé, mp, legato, in four — walking pulse, forward motion. The root D spans five octaves, while G# appears twice in the middle registers at G#3 and G#4. The line reaches into the deepest bass and climbs back, the tritone's two poles explored through the full lower half of the keyboard.

Orange meets blue — D's warm orange against G#'s cool blue, the chromesthetic opposition of the tritone rendered on canvas. The bass compresses toward black at D1, the orange emerging gradually through the lower registers. Blue arrives at G#3 as the tritone partner enters, then the orange reasserts itself as D climbs through the upper octaves. No accents from outside the chord — the painting belongs entirely to these two opposed colors.

A valley through the warm-cool divide. The phrase descends into near-black, touches the blue of G# in the middle, and returns to orange — the tritone's unresolved tension held in the space between two hues.
