Description
Eight notes from E1 to Bb6 — the E/Bb tritone, the widest span in the collection. Played Animé, mp, in three — a waltz ascending from the near-black of E1 to the light blue-violet of Bb6, the phrase climbing without turning back. The articulation is natural rather than legato, each note given its own weight. Two accents — orange at D4 and red-orange at G4 — pass through the middle of the ascent, warm tensions outside the chord.
Yellow meets violet: E gives yellow, Bb gives blue-violet, complementary colors at maximum distance on the chromesthetic wheel — mirroring the tritone's property of splitting both the chromatic scale and the circle of fifths exactly in half. Black fills the bass at E1, then yellow emerges as E climbs through the registers. The warm accents glow briefly at mid-canvas before the blue-violet of Bb takes over at the top.
The only tritone with prominent accents — the warm intrusions heightening the tension of an interval that already refuses to resolve. The phrase rises from darkness into violet light, permanently suspended.
