Description

Ten notes dipping into an inverted bell — the densest étude in the series. Animé, p, legato, four beats: soft and walking, the quietest study of the five. The phrase sinks from C#1 before rising through D3, an orange non-chord accent, and then through the full triad in the middle register — C#4, E4, G#4, C#5, E5, G#5 — before E7 closes the phrase near-white at the top.

Blue-green fills the lower registers, darkening toward gray in the bass. The middle is the richest passage: yellow and yellow-green from the third at E4 and E5, blue from the fifth at G#4 and G#5, all woven together in close spacing. The root reappears at C#4 and C#5, adding blue-green to the cluster. A single orange accent at D3 marks the one pitch outside the chord.

The inverted bell gives this étude a different breath than the ascending studies — it dips before it rises, the four-beat meter walking steadily through the densest chromesthetic field in the series. Ten pitches, three chord tones interlaced, the cool palette at its most concentrated.
