Description

Five notes, and the chord belongs to the fifth. Three Eb notes — Eb2, Eb3, Eb4 — repeat across three consecutive octaves, the blue-violet of the fifth filling the low and middle registers. Above, a yellow-orange accent at A5 and a faint trace of B6 near the top. Played Animé, mf, legato, in four — the same forward tempo as the opening, but with barely half the notes.

The canvas is almost lightless. Blue-violet deepens to near-black as the octaves descend, the root and minor third almost absent — only that pale whisper of B6 at the top acknowledges the third at all.

Where the opening stated the full triad, this first variation strips it to the fifth and holds it there. One interval repeated across three registers, blue-violet insisting quietly in the darkness.
