Provenance

Description

A small piano étude translated into color. The Ab Minor triad — Ab, Eb, and B — appears here as blue, blue-violet, and yellow-green: the chromesthetic rendering of this chord made visible. The spread voicing opens across the paper the way it opens across the keyboard, each tone placed at distance from the others, mirroring the wide interval spacing of the voicing across registers. The composition breathes in that same openness.

This painting belongs to my Synesthetic Explorations series, an ongoing practice of translating harmonic relationships into visual form. In Ab Minor, two of the three tones fall within the blue family — Ab as blue, Eb as blue-violet — while B arrives as yellow-green, its complementary contrast sharpening the chord's minor character. Each variation is a study: direct, unadorned, focused on the essential identity of the chord.
