C# Fourth Interval - Reflexions 21

Six notes climbing from C#2 to C#5 — three octaves of the fourth interval, the root repeated through consecutive registers. Played Animé, mp, legato, in three — a waltz with forward motion, the phrase ascending without return. Two accents from outside the chord — orange at D4 and red-orange at G4 — pass through the middle of the climb, warm visitors in an otherwise cool ascent.

The fourth interval gives a palette of blue-green and green, the chromesthetic translation of C# and its upper neighbor. In the low register the blue-green compresses toward black; as the octaves rise it lightens through gray toward a clear, pale blue at C#5. The warm accents glow briefly at mid-canvas, interrupting the cool gradient.

A study in the fourth's open, stable sound — neither major nor minor, the interval floating between resolution and suspension. The waltz carries it upward into light, the phrase left hanging at the top.
