Provenance

Description

Six notes climbing from Bb1 to F6 — the dominant seventh suspended chord of Bb, the phrase ascending from the near-black of the deepest bass to light violet at the top. Played Animé, mp, legato, in three — a waltz with forward motion, each note carrying the line higher. The suspended fourth — Eb — appears at Eb4, while Ab5 adds the minor seventh, and F3 and F6 frame the fifth at both ends of the phrase.

Violet anchors the palette — the root Bb giving its blue-violet hue at every register, darkening toward black at Bb1, shifting through blue-violet at Bb4, and brightening as F6 arrives in light violet at the crest. Blue at Eb4 and Ab5 cools the middle, the chord's suspended and seventh tones adding depth to the violet architecture.

The coolest étude in the series, built entirely from the violet-blue end of the spectrum. The suspension climbs from darkness into pale light — the dominant seventh held open, the waltz carrying it forward without resolving.
