The densest étude in the series — ten notes from Ab2 to Eb7, nearly five octaves of the Ab suspended fourth chord. Played Animé, mp, legato, in three, the phrase climbing from Ab2 to Eb7 without turning back. The suspended fourth — Db — appears explicitly at Db5, alongside the root and fifth stacked through multiple registers. Red-violet and orange accents at D5 add warmth outside the chord.

Blue dominates — the root Ab recurring through four octaves, each successively lighter, compressing toward black in the bass and brightening toward blue-green and blue-violet as the registers climb. The suspended fourth's blue-green sits at mid-canvas, the chord refusing to resolve to a major or minor third. Silver arrives at Eb7, the fifth dissolving into near-white at the keyboard's edge.

The largest suspended chord in the collection, dense with chord tones, the canvas flooded with blue at every register. The suspension held open from floor to ceiling.
