Provenance

Description

The deepest bass in the series. Variation 1 opens at Eb1 — the root pushed to the bottom of the keyboard — and climbs through nine notes to Gb7, a span of six octaves. Animé, mp, legato, waltz. Three non-chord tones appear in the upper register: D5 brings orange, E5 adds yellow, and G5 contributes red-orange, a cluster of warm intrusions pressing against the cool triad.

At Eb1 the blue-violet compresses to near-black, barely distinguishable as color. Bb3 and Bb4 carry the violet of the fifth in the midrange, while Gb4 and Gb5 introduce green. The warm accents at D5, E5, and G5 form a brief heated band in the upper-middle register before Gb7 dissolves the phrase into near-white at the extreme top. The painting stretches from darkness to light with the warm notes concentrated in between.

A lively waltz that covers nearly the full range of the keyboard, the sub-bass Eb1 grounding the ascent in the deepest blue-violet available. The warm accents are visitors in a fundamentally cool space.
