Description

The widest spread in the series. Ten notes from Eb1 to Gb6, spanning five octaves in four even beats — the second inverted bell, the second study in quadruple time. Animé, p, legato. The phrase dips into the low register before rising through a dense field of chord tones, the most populated étude alongside the opening study. A single yellow-orange accent at A4 provides the only warm note.

Eb1 and Eb2 open in near-black and dark blue-violet, the roots compressed toward darkness in the bass. The valley reaches Gb3 and Bb3, where green and violet first appear in their truest shades. As the line climbs, Gb4, Eb5, Gb5, and Bb5 layer green and blue-violet and violet in close succession — the three triad colors stacked tightly in the upper-middle register. Gb6 pales at the top. The yellow-orange at A4 is a small warm accent buried within the dense chord field.

Ten notes, soft, a valley that fills the canvas with overlapping layers of cool color. The density here rivals the opening study, but the quiet dynamic and the dipping contour give it a more introspective character.
