E Minor - Research on Harmony - Variations 5

After the energy of the Animé cluster, Variation 5 returns to Lent and the bell shape. Five notes, mp, four beats: E2, E4, G4, G5, B5. Two E's at the base, two G's climbing the middle, B5 at the yellow-green crest. The arch is clean — no chromatic accents, no extreme registers.

B5 at the crest returns the arch to the fifth rather than the third — like Variation 1, which also peaked at B (B4). G4 and G5 provide red-orange warmth through the middle of the phrase before B5's cool yellow-green closes it.

Fifty-six percent highlights. The étude is quieter and more settled than the three Animé études that preceded it — a return to stillness after motion, the chord breathed slowly and without complication.
