Description

Three notes. E4, G5, G6. The most compact étude in the series, the most luminous — 79% highlights. The étude stays entirely in the upper-mid register, no deep bass, no extreme high. E4 starts warm (yellow-orange in this register), and the arch rises to G6 (light yellow) at the crest.

Lent, mp, four beats. Three notes, two registers of G as the dominant color: G5 (warm orange-toward-yellow) and G6 (light yellow). The arch is brief, the span just two octaves, the palette almost entirely light.

Variation 6 is E minor stripped to three upper-register notes and maximum brightness. The quality of intimacy here is different from Variation 3's compact darkness — this is the chord in light, examined from a high, well-lit vantage.
