Provenance

Description

The bell arch peaks at B4 — the fifth, not the third. In most E minor bells, the crest arrives on G (red-orange); here the phrase climbs to B4 (yellow-green), the arch's highest color the cool, fresh hue of the fifth rather than the minor third's warmth.

Five notes, Lent, mp: E1, E2, E4, G4, B4. Three E's anchor the lower half of the range before G4 (red-orange) and B4 (yellow-green) emerge above. The arch rises from E1 (black) through the yellow-orange of mid-register E and the warmth of G4, arriving at B4's cool green crest.

Forty-four percent midtones, 39% highlights. The fifth at the crest gives the arch a different resolution than a G-topped bell — more open, less warm, the phrase concluding on the interval that most defines the chord's openness rather than its minor color.
