Description

Three E's at the base: E2, E3, E4. Where Variation 7 stacked three G's in the upper half of the arch, Variation 8 stacks three E's in the lower half. Six notes, Lent, mp: E2, E3, E4, G5, B5, G6. The root accumulates through three consecutive registers before G5, B5, and G6 carry the arch upward to its G6 crest.

The palette splits between the two groups: the low E's render in yellow-toward-black (progressively less dark as the register rises from E2 to E4), while the upper G5, B5, G6 are orange, yellow-green, and light yellow. Fifty-one percent highlights.

Two études, one with three G's at the top, one with three E's at the base — each explores a different concentration of the chord. If Variation 7 is the G-dominant bell, Variation 8 is the E-dominant bell, the root stated in depth before the minor third and fifth open the phrase upward.
