Description

The title alone marks a difference — this étude belongs to Reflexions, not Research on Harmony, and carries it quietly. B minor maps here as yellow-green tending toward black, with orange for the minor third. Those are the chord's natural colors. Against them, a violet accent lands on A#4 — a chromatic neighbor leaning into D before stepping away, leaving a faint warmth in the descent.

The étude plays Lent and piano, a waltz unwinding slowly. It opens at D5 orange and falls, note by note, to B1 black — the resolution arriving in the bass as in all quiet conclusions. The waltz meter doesn't propel it forward so much as let it sway as it falls.

B1 is almost the lowest possible register for this chord. The descent travels the full distance: from the mid-orange of D5 down through midtones and shadow to the near-black of the root. A quiet piece from a parallel series — reflective rather than searching.
