Provenance

Description

Two octaves. B3 to B5 — that is the entire range of Variation 7. No deep bass, no extreme high. The étude stays gathered in the middle register, Lent and quiet, and traces a small arch within that space.

B3 starts the arch and B5 closes it, with D and other chord tones filling the middle. In this register, B is no longer near-black but a mid-shade yellow-green; D remains warm orange. The highlights dominate despite the intimate span — more than half the canvas catches light, the middle register sitting in a brighter tonal zone.

The arch is brief, unhurried, close. Rising through just two octaves before folding back, the étude offers a different kind of completeness than the wider bells in the series — not a gesture across the full keyboard but a contained, self-sufficient study. B minor examined from within a small, well-lit room.
