Description

Variation 6 is the wider version of Variation 1. The same arch shape, the same Lent tempo, the same legato and measured pace — but the span reaches further: from B1 down near the bass, up to D6 where the orange lightens toward pale. The arch is the same gesture, just drawn on a larger canvas.

From B1 (near-black, deep bass) to D6 (lightly lit orange), the étude rises through four and a half octaves, crests, and folds back. Midtones carry most of the weight, with highlights catching more than a quarter of the painting — the upper reach of D6 adding brightness that B2-to-D5 didn't quite achieve.

The bell shape is B minor's most characteristic posture in this series: a slow arch from dark roots upward through the chord's warmth, then returning. Variation 6 is one of its fuller statements — not sparse, not overly complex, just the chord breathing out and in across a generous range.
