Description

The minor third changes the color entirely. In A Major, the third is C# — blue-green, cool, fresh. In A Minor, the third is C — red, warm, dark. This single shift transforms the palette of the chord: where A Major was built on warmth and blue-green brightness, A Minor is built on yellow-orange and red. The opening étude introduces this distinction immediately.

Eight notes, Lent, bell shape: from A1 (near-black) the line rises to C6 (light yellow-green) at the crest, then folds back. A violet accent, A#4, appears within the phrase — a chromatic tension just a half-step above the root, pressing gently against the surrounding yellow-orange and red.

Lent, mp, legato, four beats. The slow tempo gives the arch space to breathe, each note held in the sustained Lent pace. Midtones anchor the bulk of the painting's weight; highlights are restrained. This opening establishes the series' fundamental character: the warm darkness of the root, the red of the minor third, the interplay between them.
