Description

A small piano étude translated into color. The A minor triad — A1, C3, A3, E4, A4, E4, A5, C6 — appears here as yellow-orange toward black, red toward red-violet and yellow, the chromesthetic translation of this chord. From A1 to C6, the étude breathes across the full keyboard.

Played Lent — slowly, meditatively, mp — at a gentle bossa nova, conversational volume, legato — the notes flowing into one another. Rising from A1 (black) to C6 (light yellow-green) at the crest, the line folds back — an arch, a breath held and released. Arnaud wrote it in four, the pulse walks with a steady, even tread.
This painting belongs to my Synesthetic Explorations series, an ongoing practice of translating harmonic relationships into visual form. Each variation is a study — direct, unadorned, focused on the essential character of the chord.
