Description

A Major opens compressed. The opening étude spans only four notes — A1, A2, C#4, A4 — from the near-black bass to a warm yellow-orange at the top. Three octaves: a remarkably tight range for an opening study. The étude dips to A1 (near-black) before rising — an inverted bell, a valley — but the valley's floor and the phrase's ceiling are unusually close together.

Mesured and unhurried: Modéré, 72 beats per minute, four beats, mp. The palette belongs entirely to A Major — yellow-orange (A) and blue-green toward green (C#) — without tensions or accents. Four pitches, clean, no addition. The étude states the chord's core as simply as possible.

This compressed opening establishes what the A Major series will build on: the yellow-orange warmth of the root, the blue-green freshness of the third. From here, the variations expand outward — wider spans, more notes, new contours — always returning to the same chromesthetic core.
