Description

One note more, same arch. Variation 4 takes the same A1-to-A5 span as Variation 3, the same Lent tempo and mp dynamic, but adds one pitch: seven notes now, E4 filling in between C#4 and A4 in the middle register. The interior of the arch is slightly denser, the midrange more populated.

The addition of E4 introduces a blue-green touch in the mid-register, another shade of the fifth alongside E3. The two E's and the C# sit between the root in the bass and the root at the top, giving the middle a slightly cooler, blue-green cast within the warm frame.

Seven notes, legato, four beats. The arch is essentially unchanged from Variation 3 in shape and character — the same self-contained root-to-root gesture. The single added note enriches the middle without altering the étude's overall quality: still meditative, still warm, still landing softly on A5.
