Description

The only descent in the series. Seven notes opening at E6 and falling the length of the keyboard to C1 — the deepest bass note in the augmented collection. Played Lent, mp, legato, in three — a slow waltz downward, the phrase finding its resolution in the lowest register. E4, G#4, and C5 cluster in the middle, the three chord tones gathered within a single octave before the line plunges to C2 and C1.

Red darkens toward black as the root reaches sub-bass. Yellow and blue shift toward blue-green in the middle, the raised fifth and the major third sitting close together in their most characteristic hues. The upper register begins in light; the lower register ends in near-silence.

A waltz that sinks rather than rises — the augmented triad settling into the darkness of the piano's lowest octave, the phrase moving from pale light into a bass so deep the color becomes black.
