Description

The series' only valley. Variation 7 traces an inverted bell — dipping to F2 (near-black) before rising to A6 (pale yellow-orange) — the one étude in F Major where the phrase goes down before going up. Four notes, Modéré (72 beats per minute), four beats, normal articulation.

The Modéré tempo — appearing only here and in Variation 2 — gives the valley a more deliberate quality than a Lent étude would. Each note slightly more distinct in the normal articulation, the measured pulse walking through the dip and the rise with even spacing.

Highlights dominate strongly at 66% — despite the valley's low point in near-black, the painting is oriented toward the bright upper register where F4 and A5/A6 sit in warm yellow-orange. Four notes: F2, F4, A5, A6 — the root at two registers below, then the third at two registers above. A compact, bright valley.
